To the writer, every word counts. When every word counts in your story, however, you don’t want those same words to have a negative impact, only a positive one. Therefore, upon editing, be certain to carve away, or trim down, wherever necessary, especially when it comes to redundancy.
Many times, trimming down your story is just what the story needs to make a better impact on the reader. Remember, it isn’t always about your word count as much as it is about enhancing your story by ridding it of those words that aren’t really needed and that could possibly detract from what you are attempting to convey.
